Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl idir an 1 – 17 Márta agus tá na mílte imeacht pleanáilte in Éirinn agus ar fud an domhain chun an Ghaeilge agus cultúr Gaelach a cheiliúradh. Imríonn scoileanna páirt lárnach i Seachtain na Gaeilge agus tugann an tsraith seo de cheardlanna léiriú raidió an fhéile go daltaí ar fud na hÉireann agus tugann sí an deis dóibh Gaeilge a úsáid ar bhealach praiticiúil agus iontach.
Iarrtar ar ghrúpaí daltaí seó raidió Gaeilge 30 nóiméad a iontráil, atá ar oscailt do cheithre leibhéal: Rang 3-4, Rang 5-6, an 1-3ú Bliain agus an 4-6ú Bliain. Gheobhaidh na hiontrálacha a n-éireoidh leo i ngach catagóir duais airgid thirim €150 agus cuirfear iad ar an aer ar Raidió Rí-Rá, arb é an stáisiún raidió Gaeilge do dhaoine óga agus ar comhpháirtí an chomórtais é. Cuirfear imeacht speisialta bronnadh duaiseanna ar siúl ag an BAI go luath i mí Aibreáin.
Dúirt Brenda Ní Ghairbhí, Bainisteoir Sheachtain na Gaeilge: “Tugann an tsraith de cheardlanna raidió léargas do dhaltaí ar an bpróiseas céim ar chéim maidir le seó raidió a chruthú ón tús go dtí an deireadh, lena n-áirítear pleanáil agus taighde, láithriú agus eagarthóireacht. Beidh daltaí ábalta ansin leas a bhaint as a scileanna nuafhorbartha chun an comórtas náisiúnta seó raidió de chuid Sheachtain na Gaeilge a iontráil.”
Dúirt Michael O’Keeffe, Príomhfheidhmeannach an BAI, “Tá an-áthas ar an BAI dul i gcomhpháirtíocht le Seachtain na Gaeilge arís chun an comórtas móréilimh seo a thabhairt go scoileanna ar fud na tíre. Déanann an tionscnamh cur chun cinn ar úsáid na Gaeilge i measc na nglún craoltóirí féideartha amach anseo ar bhealach praiticiúil agus suntasach agus táimid sásta gur féidir le Scéim Urraíochta an BAI tacú le comórtas den chineál sin. Guímid gach rath ar na hiontrálaithe go léir agus táimid ag súil le héisteacht leis na hiontrálacha a n-éireoidh leo.”
Chuaigh an BAI i gcomhar leis an IFI chun taispeánadh speisialta ar an scannán iomráiteach “Kings” a chur ar siúl mar chuid de Sheachtain na Gaeilge. Maoiníodh an scannán le Scéim um Maoiniú Craolacháin an BAI agus is é Cartlann Scannán an IFI a choimeádann é. Léiriú a rinneadh go hálainn ar an mbraistint scoiteachta a mhothaigh imircigh fhadtéarmacha a streachlaíonn áit a fháil inar féidir leo socrú síos is ea an scannán ceanúil seo ón stiúrthóir Tom Collins. Leanann sé grúpa cairde a théann ar imirce as Éirinn go Londain agus na nithe a tharlaíonn nuair a bhuaileann siad le chéile roinnt blianta ina dhiaidh sin. Beidh “Kings” ar an scáileán san IFI, Sráid an Iústásaigh, Baile Átha Cliath 2 Dé Luain an 10 Márta ag 6.30pm agus is féidir ticéid a chur in áirithe ag www.ifibooking.ie nó 01 679 3477.

Schools take to the airwaves for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2014
Schools all over the country will have the opportunity to receive radio production training and enter their programmes into a national competition being organised as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2014 with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
Seachtain na Gaeilge takes place from 1 – 17 March and there are thousands of events planned in Ireland and around the world to celebrate the Irish language and culture. Schools play an integral part in Seachtain na Gaeilge and this series of radio production workshops brings the festival to students throughout Ireland and gives them an opportunity to use Irish in a practical and exciting way.
Groups of students are asked to enter a 30 minute Irish language radio show, which is open to four levels: 3-4th Class, 5-6th Class, 1-3rd Year and 4-6th Year. The winning entries in each category will receive a cash prize of €150 as well as airing on Raidió Rí-Rá, the Irish language radio station for young people and competition partner. A special prize-giving event will be held at the BAI in early April.
Brenda Ní Ghairbhí, Seachtain na Gaeilge Manager, said: “The series of radio workshops gives students an insight into the step-by-step process of creating a radio show from start to finish, including planning and research, presenting and editing. Students will then be able to take advantage of their newly developed skills to enter Seachtain na Gaeilge’s national radio show competition.”
Michael O’Keeffe, the Chief Executive of the BAI said” The BAI is very pleased to again partner with Seachtain na Gaeilge to bring this very popular competition to schools around the country. The initiative promotes use of the Irish language among future generations of potential broadcasters in a practical and meaningful way and we are glad that such a competition can be supported by the BAI Sponsorship Scheme. We wish all the entrants the best of luck and look forward to hearing the winning entries.”
The BAI has also teamed up with the Irish Film Institute to hold a special screening of the renowned film “Kings” as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge. The film was funded by the BAI’s Broadcasting Funding Scheme and is held by the IFI Film Archive. Director Tom Collins’s tender film is a beautifully shot depiction of the isolation felt by long-term migrants who struggle to find a place to call home. It follows a group of friends who emigrate from Ireland to London and what happens when they meet some years later. “Kings” takes to the screen in the IFI, Eustace St, Dublin 2 on Monday, 10 March at 6.30pm and you can book tickets at www.ifibooking.ie or 01 679 3477.
Schools looking for more information or wishing to take part in the radio workshops and national radio competition can contact the Seachtain na Gaeilge office at eolas@snag.ie or 01 4757401. Groups have until Friday, 28 March, to send their entries to eolas@snag.ie or Seachtain na Gaeilge, 6 Sráid Fhearchair, Baile Átha Cliath 2.

Note for Editors
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international festival which runs in March every year to promote the Irish language and culture in Ireland and abroad. Conradh na Gaeilge set up the festival in 1902. The festival has gained a lot of momentum in recent years and is now one of the biggest celebrations of our native language and culture each year. Seachtain na Gaeilge gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy Irish, whether you are a native speaker, learner or have a cúpla focal. Community groups, schools, local authorities, libraries, cultural, sport and music organisations and more register events with Seachtain na Gaeilge each year. This year’s festival will run from 1 – 17 March 2014. www.snag.ie
