Details of new Sound & Vision funding round that focuses on Irish language announced

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has today (27.07.22) announced details of the new Sound & Vision Scheme funding round that focuses on Irish Language Programming. Under Round 46 of the Scheme, the BAI is now seeking applications from the independent production and Irish broadcasting sectors for funding to help develop new radio and television programmes in the Irish language.

The €2m round is funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media. To build on the work already undertaken by the Authority to promote gender equality and recognising the need to represent diversity in Irish society, and further to the Ministerial request, this Irish language production funding stream contains a mandatory requirement that at least 50% of the actors/participants/performers and 50% of the creative team should be women in order to qualify for funding.

The €2m funding secured for this funding stream is additional to the Authority’s obligation to award 20% to 25% of the funding under SV4 generally to Irish language productions.

Details of the Sound & Vision 4 Irish Language round and how to apply can be found here. The closing date for submissions is noon on Thursday, 8th September 2022.

All applications must be submitted via www.baionline.ie.
