Radio Licensing Update: Community Radio Services

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (“BAI”) has today (2nd August 2017), announced the receipt of the following applications for three community radio services, serving the areas of South West Tipperary, South West Clare and Youghal and its Environs, and one community of interest radio service serving the community of Cork City. The four services were advertised by the BAI last May.

South West Tipperary – Tipperary and Cashel Towns and their Environs

An application was received from Tipperary Mid-West Radio Cooperative Society Limited, broadcasting as Tipperary Mid-West Radio, for a community sound broadcasting radio service, serving the community of Tipperary and Cashel Towns and their Environs. Tipperary Mid-West Radio currently operates a 10-year community service which is due to expire on the 31st July 2018.

South West Clare – Loop Head peninsula west of Kilrush and Doonbeg

An application was received from South West Clare Community Radio Company Limited By Guarantee, broadcasting as Raidió Corca Baiscinn, for a community sound broadcasting radio service, serving the community of the Loop Head peninsula west of Kilrush and Doonbeg. Raidió Corca Baiscinn currently operates a 10-year community service which is due to expire on the 31st July 2018.

Youghal and its Environs

An application was received from Youghal Communications Company Limited By Guarantee, broadcasting as Community Radio Youghal, for a community broadcasting radio service, serving the community of Youghal and its Environs. Community Radio Youghal currently operates a 10-year community service which is due to expire on the 20th October 2018.

Cork City – Community of Interest Service

An application was received from Cork New Life Media, broadcasting as Life FM, for a community of interest radio service, serving the Christian community of Cork City. Life FM currently operates a 10-year community of interest service which is due to expire on the 31st July 2018.

The BAI will now review the applications to ensure that all the information requested in the Guide to Submissions has been received and that the applications are valid.  On completion of this review, the applications will be made publicly available.
