Commercial Radio Licensing Update: Regional Music Driven Services

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (“BAI”) has today, Tuesday 26th February 2019, announced the receipt of applications for a single sound broadcasting contract for the provision of the following two sound broadcasting services on the FM band. The services were advertised by the BAI on the 21st November 2018.

• A Regional Music-Driven (Youth) Sound Broadcasting Service for the North West – (Counties Donegal. Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Longford, Roscommon and Galway)

• A Regional Music-Driven (Youth) Sound Broadcasting Service for the North East & Midlands – (Counties Louth, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Kildare, North-East Laois, Offaly and Westmeath)

One application was received for each of the above services from Wilton Radio Limited, trading as iRadio. The services are currently operated by iRadio Limited and iRadio North East and Midlands Limited under two separate sound broadcastings contracts which are due to expire on the 31st December 2019. Both iRadio Limited and iRadio North East and Midlands Limited are subsidiaries of Wilton Radio Limited.

The BAI will now review the applications to ensure that all the information requested in the Guide to Submissions has been received and that the applications are valid. On completion of this review, the applications will be made publicly available.
