The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has announced details of its participation in this year’s Culture Night, which takes place on Friday, 18th September.
The BAI will showcase some of the programming it funds, at an event at its offices at 2-5 Warrington Place, Dublin 2, from 5pm to 10pm. Visitors to the BAI building will be able to watch and listen to TV, Film and Radio projects.
The Sol Cinema, a mobile, solar powered cinema will show a host of TV and film projects funded by the BAI through its Sound & Vision scheme. In addition, a BAI ‘listening lounge’ will allow visitors to relax and listen to a selection of BAI funded radio programmes.
Commenting, BAI chief executive Michael O’Keeffe said: “This is the third year that the BAI has participated in Culture Night. Last year, we were delighted to welcome more than 250 visitors through our doors and we hope to see even more this year.
“The Sound & Vision Broadcasting Funding Scheme has supported a vast amount of high-quality TV, film and radio programmes and Culture Night gives the BAI an opportunity to showcase some of these and to celebrate the success of the scheme. We were delighted that both the listening lounge and the Sol Cinema were very popular last year and we look forward to welcoming guests at this year’s event.”
The PPI Radio Awards Hall of Fame 2015 nominees will also be announced on Culture Night. The accolade is awarded to those who are deemed to have made an exceptional contribution to radio in Ireland. Recipients are nominated by stations across the country and nominees can be well known voices or those who work behind the scenes. Previous inductees include the late Tony Fenton from Today FM, Joe Duffy from RTÉ and impressionist Mario Rosenstock.
The theme of this year’s event is Culture Night Revolves Around You and organisers are encouraging participants to share their experiences using the #LOVECulture, #CultureNight, or #CN2015 hashtags.
Admission to all Culture Night events is free.
