BAI Announces Licensing Decision for the North Donegal Franchise Area

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has today (Monday 23rd June) announced the decision of the Contract Awards Committee regarding the award of the licence for a local, broad-format radio service for North Donegal.

A contract has been awarded in principle to Donegal Highland Radio Limited (t/a Highland Radio) for the provision the radio service for the franchise area of North Donegal.  The Authority will now proceed to contract negotiations with the successful applicant and further details regarding the award of the licence will be issued in the coming months.

Editor’s Note

The licence for the local broad-format service for North Donegal was the subject of a competitive licensing process, following the receipt of more than one expression of interest for the provision of the service.  Two applicants qualified for assessment under the licensing process.  Oral presentations were held in Letterkenny on 31st of March.  Details of the applicant groups are provided in the table below.

A further two competitive licensing processes are underway, a niche music-driven service for Dublin City and County and a local broad-format service for Sligo, North Leitrim and South Donegal and these two processes should be completed over the coming weeks.
