Applications sought for Community Radio Services

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has today (4th May) announced that it is seeking applications for the provision of three community radio services and one community of interest radio service, serving the communities of each of the following franchise areas:

 

South West Tipperary – Tipperary and Cashel Towns and their Environs

The service for the community of Tipperary and Cashel Towns and their Environs is currently provided by Tipperary Mid-West Radio Cooperative Society Limited and broadcasts as Tipperary Mid-West Radio. This Contract will expire on 30th January 2018. The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 1st August 2017.

 

South West Clare – Loop Head peninsula west of Kilrush and Doonbeg

The service for the community of South West Clare is currently provided by South West Clare Community Radio Company Limited By Guarantee and broadcasts as Raidió Corca Baiscinn.  This Contract will expire on 30th January 2018. The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 2nd August 2017.

 

Youghal and its Environs

The service for the community of Youghal and its Environs is currently provided by Youghal Communications Company Limited By Guarantee and broadcasts as Community Radio Youghal.  This Contract will expire on 20th October 2017. The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 2nd August 2017.

 

Cork City – Community of Interest Service

The service for the Christian community of Cork City is currently provided by Cork New Life Media and broadcasts as Life FM. This Contract will expire on 9th March 2018. The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 2nd August 2017.

Public notices seeking applications have been placed in the relevant local papers.

Each of the services should be community focused and address the interests of, and seek to provide a social benefit to, the communities in each of the franchise areas.  The services should be non-profit-maximising and should provide for, and support, access by individuals and groups living in the relevant franchise area.
