It is obvious from the amount and high standard of the entries that Seachtain na Gaeilge is encouraging young people all over the country to use the Irish language in new and creative ways and we owe a big thanks to teachers and schools for the work that they put in to celebrating the festival and for the encouragement that they give their students.‚ÄĚ

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland sponsored the national radio show competition and also funded a series of radio workshops that took place in schools around the country in the run up to and during Seachtain na Gaeilge 2014.

Michael O‚ÄôKeeffe, the Chief Executive of the BAI said ‚ÄúThe BAI is very pleased to again partner with Seachtain na Gaeilge to bring this very popular competition to schools around the country. The initiative promotes use of the Irish language among future generations of potential broadcasters in a practical and meaningful way and we are glad that such a competition can be supported by the BAI Sponsorship Scheme. We commend the winning entries and congratulate the students and teachers who worked so hard on bringing their projects to fruition.‚ÄĚ

EDITOR’S NOTE:

Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international festival which runs in March every year to promote the Irish language and culture in Ireland and abroad. Conradh na Gaeilge set up the festival in 1902. The festival has gained a lot of momentum in recent years and is now one of the biggest celebrations of our native language and culture each year. Seachtain na Gaeilge gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy Irish, whether you are a native speaker, learner or have a c√ļpla focal.¬† Community groups, schools, local authorities, libraries, cultural, sport and music organisations and more register events with Seachtain na Gaeilge each year. This year‚Äôs festival ran from 1 – 17 March 2014. Seachtain na Gaeilge is grateful to Foras na Gaeilge, the festival’s primary funder, for its support of the festival each year. www.snag.ie
