A total of €4.5 million has been offered to broadcasters and independent producers to support the production of 71 Radio and 21 TV projects. When completed, the funded projects will be broadcast by a range of community, commercial and public service broadcasters across the country. All of the projects being offered funding will explore the themes of Irish culture, heritage and experience.

Highlights of this announcement include:

  • 92 projects are being offered funding (71 Radio, 21 TV).
  • 69 of the projects will be broadcast by Community/Commercial broadcasters.
  • Package includes 9 drama projects
  • Other genres include: Documentary, Entertainment, Animation and Education.
  • In terms of language, 11 of the funded projects are Irish/bi-lingual.
  • 42 broadcasters have committed to broadcast completed projects.

Speaking about the announcement, Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland said: “Today’s announcement marks the third allocation of funding from the Sound & Vision II Scheme this year. In 2012, to date, the Scheme has processed 616 applications and has offered, in principle, funding to 265 TV or radio projects totalling €9.88 million. This is obviously a very significant amount of investment by the Scheme into the audiovisual sector, the vast majority of which goes to independent producers. The provision of this funding will result in a range of high quality television and radio projects being available to Irish audiences.”

The BAI will now commence contract negotiations with all successful applicants. A full list of the projects being offered funding is available here

The next closing date for the receipt of applications to the fund is Friday 14th September at 12 noon. This round is open to both TV and Radio projects. Application forms and guidelines are available on: www.bai.ie
