The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (“BAI”) today, 30th April 2012, signed a 5-year Institutional Sound Broadcasting Contract with S.O.S. Kilkenny Limited.
S.O.S. Kilkenny Ltd. is a registered charity that provides lifetime services to adults with intellectual disabilities at its campus on Callan Road, Kilkenny.
The new radio station “Dreamtime Radio” will broadcast for 6 hours each day, Monday to Friday, and provide a range of music, entertainment and news content for those who attend or use the services provided on campus. Service users will also be able to develop their own skills by working on the radio station. S.O.S. Kilkenny has already operated a 30 day temporary radio service licensed by the BAI in 2010.
Speaking at the contract signing, Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BAI said: “I would like to congratulate S.O.S. Kilkenny on the signing of this contract today. I am sure that the operation of this radio station will be engaging and rewarding for all involved. I wish the staff and users of this service every success.”
The contractor, S.O.S. Kilkenny Limited, was represented at today’s contract signing by company directors, William Murphy and Michael Hogan, and Compliance Officer, Liam Quinn. Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive and John Waters, Authority Member, signed on behalf of the BAI.

Note to Editors:
Under Section 68(2) of the Broadcasting Act 2009, the BAI may enter into a sound broadcasting contract with an applicant for the provision of a low-power sound broadcasting service which is intended to serve only such single educational institution, hospital, or other similar establishment as may be specified in the contract. The term of these contracts is normally five years. The BAI already licenses such services at present which provide hospital radio services at 4 locations across the country.
